Marriage registrations

This is the administrative count of registered couples, not the number of people marrying. The main line contains completed calendar years only: 1978–2025. No partial 2026 observation is appended as if it were a full year.

6.763 million couples, not 6.763 million people

The official metric is published in 10,000 couples. A couple involves two registered persons, but this page does not convert the series into a people count because the official statistical concept is registered couples.

1,346.93

Peak in 2013

The highest year in this series is 2013, with 13.4693 million registered couples. The longer-run trend then turns downward.

814.3

A sharp low in 2020

Registrations were 8.1433 million couples in 2020. The observation falls in the pandemic shock year, but this page reports the statistical change rather than inferring causality from a single time series.

+10.8%

Annual rebound in 2025

The 2025 total increased from 2024, but remained 49.8% below the 2013 peak. A one-year rebound does not by itself establish a reversal of the long-term trend.

Source boundary

One public line, two lineage series

The NBS annual series ends in 2024; 2025 comes directly from the completed MCA Q4 cumulative release. The data layer does not pretend the two dissemination channels are one lineage series.

Precision boundary

610.56 and 610.6 are consistent

For 2024, the NBS yearbook reports 610.56 while MCA reports 610.6 at one-decimal precision. The two official releases agree after rounding.

Time boundary

Quarterly cumulative data are not annual totals

Only the completed Q4 cumulative period covers the full calendar year. 2026 Q1 or any other partial-year observation must be labelled separately and is not appended to this annual line.
