About the project

A data site built for careful reading.

China in Figures helps readers understand modern China through official statistics, transparent definitions and cautious comparisons—not slogans, not scraped dumps.

What this site is

China in Figures is an independent information product. It turns public statistics into readable pages with interactive charts, while keeping the year, unit, source and geographic scope attached to each key number.

The intended readers are international and bilingual audiences who need context: students, journalists, researchers, analysts and curious general readers. The site is not a government portal, not a news wire, and not an investment advisory service.

How we work

Every formal series is registered before publication: publisher, statistical scope, update route, units and comparability notes. Dated releases are recorded with publication and retrieval dates whenever possible.

We prefer primary official bulletins and well-documented international databases. When a value is derived from official components, the page says so. When a comparable figure is missing, we show “not available” instead of inventing a number.

Editorial text explains definitions, common mistakes and comparison limits. Charts are drawn by this project from registered data; they are not copied screenshots of third-party dashboards.

Independence and limits

Citing an official source does not mean China in Figures speaks for that institution. Official releases can be revised; definitions can change; administrative boundaries are not interchangeable with built-up areas.

If you find an error, outdated link or unclear definition, please write to us through the contact page. Corrections are part of the product, not an afterthought.

Languages and updates

Core routes are published in English and Simplified Chinese with matching structure. A language switcher and hreflang annotations help search engines and readers find the matching version.

The public changelog lives in page footers and project documentation. Methodology and Sources pages describe the registry rules and release lineage in more detail.
