Scope

What the province total covers

Hubei is the economic anchor of central China and a major Yangtze corridor, centred on Wuhan. Province-wide figures cover the entire territory—do not treat the total as the Wuhan metro area alone.

Boundary

Province is not a metro area

Resident population is year-end province-wide. At about 58.34 million it mixes the dense Wuhan core with smaller prefectures across the Jianghan plain and western highlands. Administrative area (185,900 sq km) is land inside the provincial boundary, not built-up area.

Economy

How to read the structure

In 2024, Hubei's GDP reached 6.00 trillion yuan. Services accounted for 55.2 percent; the province crossed the 6-trillion-yuan threshold for the first time. 2024 industry structure: primary 9.1%, secondary 35.7%, tertiary 55.2%. Real GDP growth was 5.8%.

International scale check

Compared with Poland

Selected for similar economic scale: Poland.

Not a like-for-like rank

Poland's nominal GDP (~US$0.88T, IMF 2024) is close to Hubei's province GDP after USD conversion (~US$0.86T).

Hubei is a Chinese province; Poland is a sovereign state. Population scales are similar but administrative boundaries are not comparable.
