China's share of world electricity generation

China and World both come from one archived Ember 2026 Yearly Electricity Data release, using same-year Total Generation records in TWh.

Ember reports 10,577.71 TWh for China in 2025, while the NBS national total is 10,575.25 TWh—a difference of 2.46 TWh (0.023%). The global share uses Ember for both numerator and denominator; it does not mix the NBS value with the Ember World total.

How to read this chart

This interactive page covers 2000–2025 with animation, sorting, filtering and export. International values remain a prototype cross-check for relative ranks and long-run paths—not a replacement for each country’s final official vintage. Per-person figures divide generation by same-year population; for 2024–2025 the denominator uses UN medium-variant projections via OWID because historical population estimates are not yet complete. China’s official total is cited separately from NBS for cross-check.

First choose total versus per-person, then check whether the filtered set is a fair peer group. Do not mix this prototype cross-check with an unexplained second database into a fake-precision ranking, and do not treat generation as identical to final electricity consumption or installed capacity.

Revision and update timeline

4
  1. Product updatev0.4.1

    Electricity-generation governance state reconciled

Aligned the published NBS primary electricity series with its registered lineage and archived communique evidence, added explicit lineage for 2025 mix/context points, and reconciled the catalog with the already-formal Ember world-share section. The animated international ranking remains a prototype cross-check. Published numeric values were unchanged.

  2. Product updatev0.4.0

    Global electricity-generation share added

Added China's 2000–2025 share of world electricity generation from one archived official Ember release, with a separate NBS China-total cross-check.
