State Post Bureau annual bulletins show China’s modern express-delivery volume rising from 13.96 billion items in 2014 to 198.95 billion in 2025. The narrower 2010–2013 “above-designated-size express enterprises” total is kept as a separate historical segment, while traditional postal parcels remain a separate concept.

Historical scope break
2010–2013 and 2014–2025 are not silently spliced
The 2010–2013 bulletins explicitly report “above-designated-size express delivery service enterprises.” From 2014 the wording changes. Both segments remain visible on one timeline, but they use separate series and a labeled break. The 2024 bulletin also notes statistical-scope adjustments by some postal/express enterprises, with year-on-year growth calculated on a comparable basis.

Same-city, nonlocal and international/Hong Kong/Macao/Taiwan shares
The nonlocal share rose from 71.5% in 2010 to 90.0% in 2025 while the same-city share fell markedly. All three categories come from the same annual bulletin and may show small rounding residuals.

The East still accounts for most activity, but its share fell from 82.0% in 2014 to 70.5% in 2025 while Central and West shares increased.

The combined share fell from 69.4% in 2014 to 61.5% in 2024. The top five are re-ranked each year rather than treated as a fixed cohort. The 2025 bulletin does not publish this metric, so it is not reconstructed.

Two official series that must not be added together
In 2025 the SPB reported 198.95 billion express items and 30.524 million postal-group parcel items. The latter is a traditional postal-service concept, not a missing slice to add onto the express total, so the page keeps it as a separate series.

UPU designated-operator statistics ≠ China’s all-industry express total
UPU Postal Statistics are collected from member countries’ designated postal operators. Ranking those figures directly against the State Post Bureau’s all-industry China express total would mix different market coverage. UPU is therefore used here only as comparability evidence, not as a pseudo-global ranking dataset.
