Trade values
Export and import values both rose, with imports still much higher
In 2025 exports were worth 1,444.2 billion yuan and imports 3,035.5 billion yuan, leaving a value gap of 1,591.3 billion yuan. Values reflect product mix, specifications and prices.

Trade gaps and average unit values
Average import value remained above export value, but this is not a technology ranking
In 2025 imports exceeded exports by 242.2 billion pieces. Average export value was about 4.13 yuan per piece and average import value about 5.13 yuan. Unit values are shaped by chip type, packaging, specifications and trade mix.

Industrial output and customs trade have different coverage, and inventories, bonded flows, re-exports and product classifications are missing.
Piece counts
Chip counts do not measure technological complexity
A simple chip and a high-performance chip each count as one. Piece counts do not replace wafer starts, transistor counts, process nodes or value added.
Unit values
Average unit value is not a technology score
A higher average import value can reflect product mix, packaging and specifications and cannot be read directly as a technology gap.
