Definition

Crude steel is not finished steel

Crude steel is the first solid steel product after primary steelmaking and precedes rolling into finished products.

World-total note

The annual world total includes estimates

Monthly 70-country totals cover about 98% of prior-year world output, while the annual world total includes estimates for additional countries.

Avoid a common mistake

52% is not a capacity-utilisation rate

Do not treat crude steel production as steel capacity, apparent steel use, finished steel output, exports or product quality.
